字源

源自古希臘語 τέκτων (téktōn,「木匠、建造者、工匠」),詞幹 tekton-。動詞為 τεκταίνομαι (tektaínomai,「建造、製作」),名詞 τέχνη (téchnē,「技藝」)與之同源,皆出自 PIE *teks-(編織、製作、削木)。拉丁語的 texere(編織;→ text、textile)亦屬同一遠親。

英語中形態有三種:

tecton-:保留詞幹(如 tectonic)

tectono-:接輔音的複合形(如 tectonophysics)

tecto-:另一條線,← 拉丁語 tectum(屋頂、遮蓋),見「易混字」

地質學的 tectonics(構造學)取其「建造」義:地殼如何被「建造」成現有的形貌。
